It was an ordinary night when something unexpected happened—I heard a question in my spirit so clearly it stopped me: “What do you want from Me?” This wasn’t just a passing thought; it carried weight and presence. I began answering the way many of us would. I asked for my daughter and her boyfriend to come to Jesus, for my son to be healed, for my wife to be filled with strength, peace, and joy, and for wisdom and deeper understanding of God’s Word so I could help others know Him. These were sincere, good prayers—but as I spoke them, I realized something deeper was being revealed. God wasn’t just hearing my words; He was showing me my heart.
What became clear in that moment changed everything. Every request I made pointed to a deeper desire I hadn’t fully recognized before: I wanted His heart. Because if I truly have God’s heart, everything else begins to align—I’ll love what He loves, desire what He desires, and trust Him even when I don’t see immediate answers. This reminded me of 1 Kings chapter 3, where Solomon was asked a similar question by God. Solomon could have asked for wealth, long life, or victory over his enemies, but instead he asked for wisdom so he could lead God’s people rightly—and that response pleased God because it reflected a heart aligned with Him.
That night left me with a question that now extends to everyone: What do you want from God? Many of us focus on what we need or hope to receive, but the deeper truth is this—God isn’t just trying to give us things, He’s inviting us to know Him. When you seek His heart above everything else, your prayers, your perspective, and your life begin to change. So the real question isn’t just what you would ask for—it’s what your answer reveals about your heart.
