What would Jesus do on a night when people are coming right to your door? He would see an opportunity to reach them with the love of God!
Every October, millions of people prepare for a night when neighborhoods come alive, doorbells ring, and people travel from house to house. Children come looking for candy, and families open their doors to welcome them.
But have you ever stopped to consider what an incredible opportunity this presents to the Church?
People are coming to YOUR door!
What if we looked beyond the costumes, the candy, and the decorations and saw something more? What if we saw every knock, every doorbell, and every encounter as an opportunity to share the greatest gift anyone could ever receive—the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ?
That’s why I’m calling on Christians everywhere to make October Evangelism Month!
Don’t Just Give Them Candy. Give Them Jesus!
I’m not suggesting that we stop being kind, welcoming, or generous. I’m suggesting that we take generosity a step further.
Let’s give them candy, but let’s also give them the opportunity to hear about Jesus!
Imagine preparing a basket with candy, Gospel tracts, and a warm smile. Imagine greeting every visitor with genuine kindness and being ready to share the hope we have in Jesus Christ. When appropriate, we can offer to pray for someone, answer a question about faith, or share a brief testimony of what God has done in our lives.
We may never know how much a simple act of kindness, a small tract, a sincere prayer, or a few words about Jesus might mean to someone.
We aren’t called merely to attend church. We are called to be witnesses for Jesus Christ.
Jesus said in Mark 16:15:
“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (KJV)
What if, for one night, we stopped thinking only about who might come to our door and started thinking about who God might give us an opportunity to reach?
Every visit is an opportunity. Every conversation is a possibility. Every act of love can point someone toward Jesus.
What Would Jesus Do on Halloween Night?
Think about it. On a night when people are already coming to your home, you don’t have to organize a major outreach, rent a building, or find an audience. You can begin right where you are.
You can prepare ahead of time:
- Tracts: Have clear, Scripture-centered Gospel tracts ready to give away.
- Treats: Offer candy or another appropriate treat as an expression of kindness.
- The love of God: Welcome people warmly, without condemnation or arguments.
- Your testimony: Be ready to share briefly how Jesus has changed your life.
- Ministry when appropriate: If someone expresses a need or welcomes prayer, take the opportunity to pray and minister as the Holy Spirit leads.
You don’t have to force a conversation or turn every interaction into a confrontation. Be sensitive, be wise, respect people’s boundaries, and let your actions reflect the character of Jesus.
Some people may simply take the candy and leave. Others may ask questions. Someone may be hurting, searching for answers, or more open to hearing about God than you realize.
Our responsibility is to be faithful witnesses. We can trust God with the results.
Learn to Evangelize Like Jesus
This is exactly why I wrote my book, Evangelize Like Jesus.
After more than 50 years of serving Jesus and learning through my walk with the Holy Spirit, I want to help believers build a strong biblical foundation for sharing the Gospel and put their faith into action.
Evangelism is more than handing someone religious literature. It is about communicating the Gospel Jesus preached, demonstrating His love, and learning to follow the Holy Spirit as we reach people.
In Evangelize Like Jesus, you’ll discover practical biblical teaching to help you become more effective in sharing your faith, including principles of witnessing, the message of the Gospel, and the importance of the Holy Spirit’s power in ministry.
My desire is not simply to encourage Christians to talk about Jesus, but to help them become more confident and equipped to share Him with others.
October is a great place to start.
Don’t wait for a church program or an organized outreach. Start with the opportunities God puts right in front of you.
Wear Your Witness!
I’m also inviting you to be part of the campaign by checking out the Christian witness T-shirts available through my store.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/HSRMSHOP
These shirts are designed to help you express your faith, start conversations, and make your Christian witness visible in everyday life.

Wear one when you’re preparing your Halloween outreach, welcoming visitors to your home, attending community events, or simply going about your day. You never know when a message on a shirt might open the door to a conversation about Jesus.
Your clothing doesn’t replace sharing the Gospel, but it can help start the conversation!

Join the October Evangelism Month Campaign
Here’s my challenge to you:
Don’t let October pass without intentionally sharing Jesus with someone.
Prepare your Gospel tracts. Get your treats ready. Pray for the people you’ll meet. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize opportunities to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
And when that doorbell rings, remember: you’re not just handing out candy. You’re welcoming someone God loves.
We may not be able to reach everyone in the world from our front porch, but we can begin by faithfully reaching the people who come to us.
Let’s make October more than a month of costumes and candy. Let’s make it a month of Christian witness, compassion, boldness, and Gospel opportunity!

Let’s give them treats—but let’s give them Jesus, too!
